Guides: Opportunities For Volunteers With NDASS
As well as opportunities for volunteers, what does the service provide?
A free, confidential service for anyone in North Derbyshire over the age of 18 years who is affected by their own or someone else's alcohol use. This includes:
- One-to-one counselling or group support
- Telephone help line
- Advice and information
- Routes to Community Alcohol Team and Rehabilitation
- Alcohol Treatment Orders
- Training and education for other agencies and professionals
What the service offers volunteers:
- Comprehensive training package
- In-house clinical supervision
- Non-clinical and personal development support
- Out-of-pocket expenses
- Support with work towards DANOS (Drug and Alcohol Occupational Standards)
- Ongoing training
- Regular newsletter
- An opportunity to contribute skills and be involved with an innovative community service
- An opportunity to gain experience of face-to-face work in a specilaist area
- The chance to be part of a small friendly team
The selection process:
> Contact the service > Information evening > Complete application form > References requested > Selected applicants attend our volunteer training course > Interview > Police checks > Client work
Due to the sensitive nature of this work any volunteer may be asked to stop working for the agency if concerns arise. This would always be discussed with the volunteer.
What we expect from volunteers:
- An agreed number of client contact hours per week
- Obligatory attendance at DAAS group supervision
- Adherence to the ethos, policies and practices of DAAS
- A non-judgemental attitude and the ability to work confidentially
- Volunteer counsellors must have or be working towards a qualification recognised by this agency
- The above does not apply to volunteer support workers, however you will need to be a person with an interest or some experience in the alcohol field
- Applications are invited from anyone over the age of 18. If you have any special needs DAAS will endeavour to accomodate them
